Interview Originale

IGN TV: First let me start by asking about having Bobby back in the last episode. Last summer when Jim [Beaver] was at Comic-Con for the show, I thought, “Well, if he’s at Comic-Con, he must be coming back,” but you held off for quite awhile. Did you know from the start that you wanted to bring him back at this point?

Jeremy Carver: To be perfectly frank, no. We knew we wanted to bring him back. We weren’t certain when. We wanted to bring him back, and we wanted it to make sense. We found a way as we developed both the trial and purgatory storylines over the course of the season. Because you never really want a death to feel unimportant or transitory -- because a lot went into that death, you know? So essentially you want to earn it, and I think we found a way to make it make sense. Bobby had a little bit more to say, so we were happy with it.

IGN: And Bobby did leave off saying that he felt one day he’d see Sam and Dean again. Should we assume he’s correct?

Carver: Well, he’s an ornery guy, so hopefully so.

IGN: This next episode has Charlie returning. Can you talk about this third go around and what brings her back into their lives?

Carver: Yeah, I think Charlie has been one of our favorite recurring characters as of late. I think what’s so exciting about this episode coming up, episode 820, is that we really get a much deeper insight into her and her past and her character. You’re always going to have a certain amount of humor when it comes to Charlie, but we get a tremendous amount of hardened emotion in this upcoming episode that I think folks are going to enjoy, as Sam and Dean peel back the many layers of Charlie.

IGN: Really for anyone who’s not Sam or Dean on this show, it can be pretty dangerous, and some people are around for a pretty short amount of time. But it’s been particularly tough to have a female character that’s stuck around for quite awhile. Are you hoping to possibly change that going forward, whether it be Charlie or someone else?

Carver: Well, we had another female character that stuck around for awhile, and that was Meg -- and you see what happened to her. But yeah, what can I say? Charlie, to me, is a character who brings a breath of fresh air into the show. Male or female, I think you always want to see someone like that come back for more.

IGN: Sam has one more trial left. With a handful of episodes this season, going into the finale, will we learn more about this trial before then, or will that be revealed in the finale itself?

Carver: We’re in a situation here, whether people realize it or not, we’re at a bit of a crossroads here. The boys have two trials down, and Kevin’s fate is rather uncertain here at the end of episode 19. So the idea of finding out about this third trial is very much on the forefront of their minds and something that we’ll be dealing with well before the finale as well.

IGN: Should we take Crowley at his word about Kevin’s mother being dead?

Carver: That’s an excellent question, and I think we can. I mean, you have no choice until Crowley says differently... in Season 14. [Laughs]

IGN: Dean’s seeing a lot of crises for the people around him with Sam, with Castiel. What will Dean’s role be as these things are occurring to these people that he cares so much about?

Carver: The way you asked that is a little bit tough for me to answer, aside from the fact that the boys, they started this season very much -- they were coming from different positions at the beginning of the season. The other thing that really united them was this shared sense of revenge. So I think what Dean and Sam are both going to have to contend with as they march towards the end here is, how far are they willing to go to get this revenge? Because things get pretty hairy.

IGN: Misha [Collins] will be back next season as a regular. Castial, though, he’s gone through a lot, and he’s had a lot of different situations to deal with. Is there any hope for Cas to finally get back to his old, more centered self or - as centered as he can be, with everything that’s going on?

Carver: One can hope. I think Cas is also one of those snakebit guys whose appreciation of humanity, as it develops over several years, has knocked him off stride a bit. It’s a case of the “best intentions can lead to the worst consequences.” It sounds like something he should have said one day, but I’m certain you can find someone who’s quoted around that somewhere. Yeah, I think it’s quoted like a stitch pillow from my grandmother’s house. I don’t know. I’m sorry, Eric! [Laughs]

IGN: [Laughs] No worries. As you said, Castiel, he’s always learning about humanity. If he saw a stitch pillow, he might recite something off of it.

Carver: Exactly. “Home sweet home” and all of that.

IGN: It’s very interesting to hear about the return of Sarah Blake from Season 1, because that’s obviously reaching far into the show’s history. So can you talk specifically about bringing that character back and how that came about?

Carver: Well, let me speak in a more general sense, and I’ll give you a little bit of a tease and say that she’s not the only blast from the past to return in the last several episodes. These reappearances are related somewhat to the trials, and not in a good way.

IGN: So it won’t necessarily be a happy reunion for her and Sam?

Carver: I can tell you that -- I’m gonna dodge that one, but she’s not the furthest back we’re going. We’ve got eight years here.

IGN: Yes you do. Has it been fun for you this season to introduce the Men of Letters and also specifically to give them a headquarters, which they’ve never really had? Bobby’s place was kind of the only way station, or going back, the Roadhouse. Is it nice for you to give them a place where they can sometimes actually settle in?

Carver: I love it. I think on just a pure fun sense, I think it’s a really neat thing. I think it’s a wonderful, emotional callback to this side of the family that they never knew. I think it reignited Sam’s passion for hunting, in terms of finding his place in the family tree, as it were. I think the place itself is a wonderful repository of information, a trove of records and different types of record-keeping, which we’re going to see come into play in the last several episodes. I think on an emotional level for both the boys, they’ve never really had any place like you hinted at, that they could call home or their own. I think the idea in episode 14, where Dean was decorating his room, that carried real emotional weight for him. They haven’t been able to do that in a long, long time. Yeah, I’m very happy with the Men of Letters, the whole idea of it.

IGN: Supernatural will sometimes end seasons really tying up that year's arc, while perhaps leaving a big question mark for next season, while other times it’s more of a straight up cliffhanger. This year, any hints as far as what direction to expect?

Carver: I think you’re going to see a little bit of both. I think you’re going to see some storylines absolutely resolved, and some definite “OMG” cliffhangers.

IGN: I’m always curious about Chuck and if we might see him again. Any chance of that?

Carver: Um... I can’t comment on Chuck.
